Butlin’s Minehead Refurbishment Programme

Like almost everyone in England, we have our own history with Butlin’s, going back almost 15 years ago.

Our first project for Butlin's Minehead in 2007 was a new luxury timeshare apartment development known as Blue Skies. New features of MEP services included centralised hot water and underfloor heating. We implemented latest design thinking in building services, including integrated BMS system to help Butlin’s manage the properties.

In 2014, the resort started a large renovation programme, and we were involved in upgrading the electrical and drainage infrastructure.

In 2015 we provided initial design, tender specification and site supervision for an American themed diner restaurant on the resort, which was converted from an existing amusement arcade. The works included new mechanical and electrical installation, new acoustic ceilings and new drainage.

In 2016 refurbishment works begun on the Seaside Village Chalets. CDI deliverables included RIBA Stage A-D design of the Mechanical and Electrical installations of the new leisure building, performance specification and contractors supervision for the chalet village.

The new infrastructure had to be in place to support delivering and installation of pre-fabricated chalet building. To deliver the chalets with an updated design, we worked together with the manufacturer to ensure that energy efficiency and comfort of users will be achieved.

Better than average insulation allows the inside temperature to stay stable during hot or cold weather. We have specified energy efficient heating and hot water generation and lighting and ensure that all pre-fab connections fit the outlets on site.

For the previously completed, Lakeside Village, Butlin’s worked together with Mumsnet on the design of the chalet's balconies and verandas, open-plan living areas and amenities, to guarantee families the ultimate place of comfort and safety.
